Here is our review for the GNC Lean Shake 25. The main selling point with this meal replacement shake is the protein content, but the shake also has a lot of desired qualities, including multiple flavors and a really good price. Take a look at our full review.
GNC is a very popular, very reputable retail brand that focuses on health and nutrition products. The main products they sell online and through their retail stores include vitamins, minerals, nutritional supplements, diet pills, sports nutrition, and energy supplements. GNC has multiple products that are among the top selling health supplement and vitamin products in the United States.
The protein levels in the GNC Lean Shake are huge, with a total of 25 grams of protein in every serving. This shake is more of a protein shake than a meal replacement shake, but has elements of both that can help you either build lean and maintain lean muscle or as a supplement to your weight loss. As with any weight loss plan, you need to make sure to eat plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables.
Each shake (8-10 oz. of water and two scoops of powder) include 200 calories. This is actually really good for a meal replacement shake. Most other shakes have about 200-250 calories each. As we just mentioned, this shake is loaded with protein, but also does a really good job with other vitamins and minerals. As you can see from the nutrition facts, the GNC Lean Shake 25 has between 20% and 60% of the daily value of all the important vitamins.

The main question in all meal replacement shakes is how well it will keep you full. The GNC Lean Shake has 8 grams of fiber in every shake, with a combination of soluble fiber and dietary fiber. 8 grams is pretty good, but fiber seems to be the only appetite suppressant. Other shakes will have additional ingredients to block hunger. This shake won’t make you feel full right away, but it should satisfy you for a couple of hours.
Usually when you have fewer calories, you sacrifice taste. That isn’t really the case with the GNC Lean Shake 25. It comes in seven different flavors, including Banana, Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, French Vanilla, Mixed Berry, Orange Cream, and Cookies and Cream. In order to get the “shake” taste, we like to use Skim Milk instead of water, but that will add an extra 80 calories to your meal replacement shake. Using just cold water is good too, but you will have different results depending on the flavor you choose. A straight vanilla flavor is probably going to be the safest.
One of our complaints was the grittiness of the shake. With the 25 grams of protein, the shake isn’t as smooth as other meal replacement shakes on the market. It tastes more like a protein shake. If this is a problem for you, we suggest mixing the powder into some blended fruit or berries. You will have the texture of a real smoothie with the added hunger suppressant and a ton of protein. You will have the added calories, however. You can also mix it with ice in a blender and have more of a thick shake texture that will counteract any other textures in the powder.
Here are the different flavor variations of the GNC Lean Shake 25:
The GNC Total Lean Shake comes in a 1.83 pound tub for currently $33.74 with free shipping. Each tub has enough powder for 16 shakes. That comes out to about $2.11 per shake. That actually isn’t too bad. There are cheaper shakes available, but not loaded with this much protein. If you drank one shake per day, you will only need two tubs per month; however at two shakes per day (the recommendation for meal replacement) you are looking at 4 tubs. If that is the case, you might look at ordering several different flavors to see which works best for you, or to just get more variety.
|Pros and Cons|
Pros – Loaded with protein. If you are looking for a meal replacement shake that can also double as a protein shake, then the GNC Total Lean Shake is probably the best one for you. Also the variety of flavors with a good price point.
Cons – Too much protein can give this shake not a smooth texture. This problem can be overcome in multiple ways. Also some of the ingredients might prevent some from using it. The GNC Total Lean Shake includes soy, as well as hydrogenated soybean oil.
